This is the second of the Commission’s monthly updates, providing visibility to the media and the public on our key activities and work underway.

As at 11 June 2025, we are conducting 33 preliminary investigations and 33 corruption investigations. Six of our matters are currently before the courts, and since our commencement 8 convictions have been secured as a result of investigations we have commenced or continued.

Key public highlights from the last month have included:

Operation Elektra investigation report published

Today we published the investigation report for Operation Elektra, a joint investigation by the former Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity (ACLEI), the Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Federal Police into Serco officers providing telephone services and official information to detainees in immigration detention centres.

The investigation resulted in 2 officers being charged, with both pleading guilty. Officer 1 was convicted and fined $2,000. Officer 2 was discharged without conviction upon undertaking to be of good behaviour and comply with a supervision order for 10 months.

Legacy ACLEI investigations

When we began operating on 1 July 2023 we inherited 32 open referral assessments, 22 investigations – like Operation Elektra – and 46 agency investigations subject to oversight or reporting requirements. These account for 7 of the 8 convictions recorded since that time, while:

  • 4 ACLEI matters remain before the court
  • 3 investigation reports have been published.

This legacy caseload continues to require a significant amount of work. It is balanced with our functions under the National Anti-Corruption Commission Act and with consideration of how best to progress the legacy matters while ensuring there is sufficient resourcing and capability to manage the new referrals we have received since we commenced operations.

Promoting ethical leadership and accountability

Deputy Commissioner Kylie Kilgour recently addressed the Public Sector Integrity and Governance Conference, held in Canberra, on ethical leadership and accountability.

Deputy Commissioner Kilgour updated attendees on our work, and provided practical guidance to support ethical decision-making by senior public officials. This includes:

  • decide based on evidence
  • ensure decisions are lawful
  • record reasons for your decisions.
